The pharmacy front-store POS that works today

Everything sold without a prescription — OTC, vitamins, health and beauty, first aid, cards and gifts — rings up on the core POS now. The prescription counter stays on your pharmacy system until the planned features ship.

30-day trial. Front Store from $39 per location a month, indicative.

1Overview

What the pharmacy front store covers

Four jobs, each with its own page: the catalogue and labels, stock with lots and expiry, the checkout with loyalty and gift cards, and the online store generated from your products.

2Two counters

Front store vs the Rx counter: who does what today

Today the two counters stay separate: GetPharmacyPOS runs the front store, your pharmacy management system runs prescriptions. Combined baskets come with the planned PMS integration.

3Set-up

Setting up the front-store register

Five compartments, opened in order: business, location, catalogue import, labels, register. Most single-store pharmacies are ready in an afternoon.

  1. Step 1 Create the business 3 min

Name, currency, time zone, financial year. Your account lives on the hosted platform; there is nothing to install.

  2. Step 2 Add the pharmacy as a location 5 min

Address, tax rates, receipt layout, invoice numbering and registers. Add a second location the same way.

  3. Step 3 Import the front-store catalogue 20 min

Download the import template, fill it from your current system or supplier lists, and upload it. Lots and expiry dates come in with opening stock.

  4. Step 4 Print shelf and barcode labels 10 min

Pick products, pick a label size, print to a label printer or sheet labels. Items without barcodes get one generated.

  5. Step 5 Open the register 5 min

Connect scanner, receipt printer and cash drawer, open the register with a float and take the first sale.

4Hardware

Any modern browser device runs it. Add a USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner, an 80 mm thermal receipt printer, a label printer and a cash drawer that opens from the printer.

Barcode scanners

Any scanner that types into the browser (keyboard mode). 2D scanners read GS1 DataMatrix codes too.

Receipt and label printers

80 mm thermal receipt printers; label printers for shelf, barcode and price labels.

Cash drawer

Opens from the receipt printer on cash sales.

Card terminal

Your processor's terminal. Card data never passes through this POS.

6Questions

Front-store questions

What is a pharmacy front-store POS?

Works today

It is the register for everything sold without a prescription: OTC medicines, vitamins, health and beauty, first aid, cards and gifts.

Full answerHide full answer

In most independents the front store is a small share of sales but a large share of the SKUs, and it is where loyalty, gift cards and seasonal promotions happen. A front-store POS needs fast barcode scanning, label printing, stock with lots and expiry dates, and clean reports. It does not need, and must not touch, prescription data.

Can I run the front store on GetPharmacyPOS while my PMS handles prescriptions?

Works today

Yes, as two separate systems with two separate registers or tills. Nothing is linked between them today.

Full answerHide full answer

Some pharmacies keep a dedicated front register and send Rx customers to the pharmacy counter. That works now. What does not work yet is one combined basket with Rx items and front-store items in a single sale; that needs the planned PMS integration.

How many products can I load?

Works today

There is no product limit on the Front Store plan. Large catalogues import from a CSV file.

Full answerHide full answer

Barcodes, SKUs, brands, categories, units, variations (size, scent, pack count), purchase and selling prices, tax rates, lot numbers and expiry dates can all come in through the import. Labels print from the same data.

Does it track expiry dates on OTC stock?

Works today

Yes. Stock can carry lot numbers and expiry dates, and a stock-expiry report lists what expires and when.

Full answerHide full answer

See Stock, lots and expiry for the routine we suggest: receive with lot and expiry, check the report weekly, and pull or discount short-dated items before they expire.

Can I use it in more than one pharmacy?

Works today

Yes. Multiple locations share one catalogue, keep their own stock, and can transfer stock between stores.

Full answerHide full answer

Each location can have its own registers, receipt layout and price groups. Reports can be run per store or across all of them.

Which payment methods work at the front register?

Works today

Cash, cards through your own processor, store gift cards, reward points and split payments across methods.

Full answerHide full answer

Card payments always run through a processor you contract with; the POS records the payment. In the UAE that usually includes Apple Pay on the processor's terminal; in Pakistan, JazzCash and Easypaisa can be recorded as payment methods.

Will front-store data move into the pharmacy edition later?

Planned

Yes. The pharmacy edition is the same platform; your products, customers and history stay where they are.

Full answerHide full answer

When the planned Rx features ship they are added to the same account. Nothing needs to be re-imported.

Is the online store safe for a pharmacy?

Works today

It lists retail products only, which you choose. Never list prescription items, and check your state or emirate rules for selling OTC medicines online.

Full answerHide full answer

Rules on selling OTC medicines online differ between US states, the UAE emirates and Pakistan's provinces. The store is a catalogue of what you decide to publish; we do not decide what is legal to sell in your market.
